The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), at the weekend reportedly arrested a former Minister of State for Power, Mohammed Wakil in Abuja over alleged suspicious payments in Power Holding Company of Nigeria Limited (PHCN).
A news report by PRNigeria indicated that the former Minister would be arraigned today in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
It would be recalled that the commission had sometime in 2018 arraigned the former minister and four others at the Federal High Court, Maiduguri, Borno State over alleged collection of $115 million from a former minister of petroleum resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to influence the outcome of the 2015 presidential election.
An indigene of Borno State and a law graduate from the University of Maiduguri, Mohammed Wakil was the Minister of State for Power in Nigeria during President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
He was also a member of the National Assembly who, during the Obasanjo/Atiku first term, emerged the majority leader in the House of Representatives.
