Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies (DisCos) operating on the national grid recorded a N51.17 billion revenue shortfall in December 2025, the the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reported.
The NERC, in its December commercial performance factsheet published on its website on Saturday, indicated that in the month under review, the DisCos billed customers a total N258.66 billion but were only able to collect N207.49 billion, representing a collection efficiency of 80.22% by the companies..
According to the factsheet, while the DisCos received electricity worth N309.65 billion from the grid during the month, only N258.66 billion worth of the energy supplied them was successfully billed to customers, translating to a billing efficiency of 83.53%.
The NERC reported that the actual average revenue realised by the DisCos stood at N98.97 per kilowatt hour, compared with an allowed average tariff of N124.30 per kilowatt hour, indicating a revenue recovery efficiency of 79.62% for the power distribution segment.

A further analysis of the NERC’s commercial performance factsheet of the DisCos in December 2025 reflected that Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) recorded the highest revenue collection of N38.11 billion out of N46.68 billion billed, representing a collection efficiency of 81.64% while Ikeja Electric (IKEDC) followed with N36.20 billion recovered from N43.41 billion billed, translating to 83.38% collection efficiency.
Similarly, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) collected N38.01 billion collected from N41.41 billion billed, achieving 91.79% collection efficiency; Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) collected N18.38 billion from N21.53 billion billed during the month; while Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company _PHEDC) collected N17.62 billion out of N21.6 billion billed its customers in the month under review.
Also, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) collected N23.60 billion from N28.34 billion billed compared with Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), which raked in N17.57 billion from N23.08 billion billed during the month; Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC) collected N8.98 billion from N15.64 billion billed; just as Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) collected N3.55 billion from N4.25 billion billed its customers in December 2025.
According to the commission, Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) collected N5.43 billion from N12.67 billion billed customers, representing 42.92% collection efficiency and the lowest collection efficiency among the DisCos in December 2025,
The NERC stated that data for Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC) for the month under review was not available due to ongoing upgrade of the company’s billing system to comply with regulatory requirements.
