The Nigeria Customs Service has disclosed that it generated N799 billion from January to May this year, representing an increase of N226.1 billion over its total revenue collections in the corresponding period of last year.
The Service’s Public Relations Officer , Joseph Attah, who made the disclosure on Monday while addressing newsmen in Abuja, said the improvements in the agency’s revenue collection was aided by its strict enforcement of all extant rules governing imports, exports and excise in the country.
In addition, he attributed the improved performance to strategic deployment and re-orientation of officers and automation of the processes and regulations of its operations.
Attah linked the boost in the revenue collection to other reasons, including stakeholders’ sensitisation, increasing level of compliance from stakeholders and improved working relations with the National Assembly.
