Bauchi State is to benefit from the World Bank’s Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project.
The State Commissioner for Environment and Housing, Hon. Hamisu Muazu Shira, who gave this hint while speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Bauchi on Wednesday, said the state government would collaborate with all relevant stakeholders in order to successfully implement the project.
Noting that the state was selected among the 19 northern states for the project’s implementation, the commissioner charged the participating ministries to work very hard to enable the state meets the requirements of accessing the intervention fund.
He said: “I welcome all of you to this important meeting, I must appreciate your efforts and commitment towards ensuring the success of this project in our state.”
According to him, one of the objectives of the project is to increase the adoption of climate-resilient landscape management practices and enhance livelihoods in targeted arid/semi-arid watersheds in Northern Nigeria.
The commissioner explained: “The ACReSAL project is aimed at focusing on improving agriculture activities in this semi-arid landscape while ensuring safeguard of lives and the environment involved as well as improving the livelihood of people in project area.”
He expressed optimism that the implementation of the project in the state would significantly contribute to current efforts of the state government to address challenges in the environment, agriculture and water resources sectors of the state.
The ACReSAL Project Development Objective (PDO) is to increase the adoption of climate resilient landscape management practices in targeted arid/semi-arid watersheds in Northern Nigeria.
