The World Bank President, Ajay Banga, will begin a three-day visit to Nigeria on August 3 as part of his global tour schedule that is at the centre of a mission to write a new playbook for the 78-year-old institution.

During the visit to the country, the development finance banker will focus on identifying opportunities to create jobs for young people and women, addressing energy needs and renewable energy, and further exploring the potential for digitization.

The Media Advisory on the World Bank President’s visit to Nigeria issued by Senior External Affairs Officer, Nigeria Country Office of the Breton Woods institution, Mansir Nasir, indicated that as part of these efforts, Banga would visit a World Bank financed mini-grid power plant that is providing solar energy to an entire community, and a woman-owned business that has generated more than 1,500 service-sector jobs for young Nigerians.

While in Nigeria, Banga will meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima and subsequently hold discussions with representatives from the organized private sector and civil society organisations.

Banga’s visit to Nigeria is coming barely after he paid a two-day visit to Ethiopia and followed earlier tours to Peru, Jamaica, and India.
