Based on the prevailing micro and macroeconomic indices in the nation’s economy, investment experts at Bancorp Securities Limited, a leading stockbroking consulting services firm in Nigeria, on Monday projected that trading on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) this week would be positive, driven by improving market sentiment and easing inflation pressures.

The experts, in the firm’s ‘Weekly Stock Recommendation 18th-22nd May 2026’ Note circulated to our correspondent on Monday, predicted that the local bourse’s performance would be supported largely by Banking, Industrial Goods and Consumer Goods sectors.

Specifically, the analysts projected: “We expect the market to maintain a positive but selective tone ahead of the MPC meeting, supported by improving market sentiment and easing inflation pressures.

“The Banking, Industrial Goods, and Consumer Goods sectors are likely to remain supported by earnings resilience, recapitalisation positioning, and relative exchange-rate stability, although intermittent profit-taking may persist following the strong market rally”, they added.

The researchers recalled that last week, the equities market extended its bullish momentum, as the NGX All-Share Index (ASI) advanced by 2.27% week-on-week to close at 250,330.92 points, pushing year-to-date returns higher to 60.87%, while market capitalisation increased by 2.13% to N160.44 trillion.

According to them, the market’s strong performance reflected sustained buying interest across Banking, Industrial Goods, Consumer Goods, and Insurance counters, as investors continued to position around fundamentally supported names amid improving macro sentiment

In addition, they noted that the market activity strengthened further during the week, with total trading volume rising by 9.85% to 7.77 billion units from 7.08 billion units recorded in the previous week, while transaction value increased sharply by 15.32% to N374.04 billion across 402,941 deals.

However,  the researchers observed that the market’s total deals declined by 15.07% during the week, suggesting that trading activity remained concentrated around large-ticket and institutional transactions across selected high-conviction counters. Financial Services remained the dominant driver of market turnover, accounting for 61.43% of total traded volume and 52.49% of traded value during the week.
