Investment experts at Bancorp Securities Limited, one of the investment research and stockbroking firms in Nigeria, on Monday projected that the nation’s equities market this week will open with investors’ sentiment cautiously optimistic after weeks of losses.

The analysts, in the firm’s ‘Weekly Stock Recommendation 08th-12th Sept 2025’ Note shared with our correspondent, noted that while selling pressure had characterized the previous weeks’ trading sessions attractive valuation of some stocks could open investment opportunity for investors to explore for returns.

The experts forecasted: “The market opens the new week with sentiment cautiously optimistic, even after four consecutive weeks of losses. While selling pressure has dominated, attractive valuations across select counters continue to provide room for opportunistic entry.

“Liquidity dynamics and the absence of strong catalysts may keep overall momentum muted, but rotational play is likely to persist as investors weigh fundamentals against short-term sentiment”, they added.

The investment researchers, who hinged the firm’s stance majorly on macroeconomic indicators in the economy, including the local currency’s exchange rate in the FX market, recalled that last week the bearish momentum in the NGX persisted, marking a fourth consecutive week of losses as investors continue to question where the bottom might be.

Consequently, the NGX All-Share Index slipped by 0.94% w/w to close at 138,980.01 points, dragging year-to-date return down to 35.03% while the market capitalisation declined by N832.4 billion, settling at N83.93 trillion at the close of trading session last Thursday.

During the week under review, activity levels in the equities market were mixed as total traded volume declined 2.56% to 3.11 billion units, while value traded increased 5.73% to N90.29 billion across 118,017 deals.
