Investment experts at Bancorp Securities Limited, a leading investment research and stockbroking firm in Nigeria, have predicted that trading sessions in the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) this week would be characterised by bullish sentiment among investors as they struggle to stake funds in strong stocks.
In the firm’s just released ‘Weekly Stock Recommendation Sept 29 – October 3, 2025’, circulated to our correspondent on Monday, the experts hinged their forecast on the expected liquidity increase following the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN’s) downward review of the benchmark lending rate (MPR) to 27.00% at its last Monetary Policy Committee’s meeting concluded last week in Abuja.
They recalled that last week, the Nigerian equities market, despite starting the week with three consecutive sessions of losses, managed to recover, sustaining its upward momentum for a third straight week.
The researchers noted that rebound was supported by gains in the Industrial Goods, Consumer Goods, and Banking sectors, thereby making the NGX All-Share Index (NGXASI) to advance by 0.20% week-to-date (WTD) to close at 142,132.02 points, and lifting the year-to-date (YTD) return to 38.09%.

According to the data from the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), the market capitalization also rose by 0.24% (N215.84 billion) to settle at N89.96 trillion.
The Bancorp Securities experts pointed out, however, that there was a divergence between the ASI and market capitalization emerged, reflecting the listing of 3.17 billion ordinary shares of FCMB following the conversion of its N23.11 billion mandatory convertible loan (inclusive of accrued interest) into equity.
Similarly, last week they noted that trading activity on the local bourse reflected the positive index performance, with total volume and value traded surging by 180.94% and 479.98% to 7.68 billion units and N494.13 billion, respectively.
On their projection for the market this week, the analysts stated: “We expect to see more liquidity in the market this week on the back of CBN’s rate cut, with investors positioning for Q3 results while focusing on fundamentally strong stocks.
“Tier-1 banks and other key sectors could continue to gain investor’s attention, some fundamentally strong insurance stocks may gain attention after recent declines”, they added.
