The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced that Airtel Networks Limited emerged as the sole bidder for the 3.5GHz Spectrum band auction, having met all the pre-auction bid requirements by it.
In a statement issued on the process, the commission disclosed that by the close of business on Monday, only two companies expressed interest in the auction of the 3.5GHz Spectrum band.
It listed the two operators as Airtel Networks Limited (Airtel) and Standard Network & Connections Limited (Standard Network).
The industry regulator, however, stated that only Airtel paid the Intention to Bid Deposit (IBD) as stipulated in the Information Memorandum (IM) while Standard Network sent an email appeal for the deadline to be extended by twelve (12) working days.
The commission stated that Standard Network’s request was turned down in view of the auction timetable.
It stated that having met all the provision in the IM, Airtel had emerged as the sole bidder for the 3.5GHz Spectrum band.
The commission maintained that following the outcome of the process, there shall be no further bidding and that it will now proceed to the Assignment Stage in line with the published IM guiding the licensing process.
