AGF Vows To Promote Best Accounting Principles In Public Sector

The Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Dr. Oluwatoyin Madein, has restated her commitment to continuously promote professional accounting standards and principles in the public service in furtherance of government’s drive towards improved fiscal efficiency in governance.

Madein made the promise when she hosted the leadership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), led by the 60th President of the Institute, Dr. Davidson Alaribe, during a courtesy visit to her office in Abuja.

While assuring the Institute’s leaders of support for the professional body’s with integrity, transparency  and zero level of tolerance to corruption both in private and public sectors,
she maintained that her office had been playing a lead role in upholding accounting profession best practices with about 70% of its workers being accountants.

The AGF reiterated that her office would continue to partner the ICAN with a view to promoting transparent accounting principles in public finance since the mandates of the Institute and her office are  common.

Madein assured: “I will maintain integrity , ethics and core values of the Accounting profession as well as  to welcome all criticisms and recognition in the accounting practices.”

Earlier in his address, the ICAN President said the courtesy visit to the AGF was  to commend her for  role and support during the last ICAN Conference.

Abaribe acknowledged the pivotal role the AGF is playing towards improving accounting practice in the country, particularly in the reactivation of Federal Treasury Academy in Orozo, Abuja.

He disclosed that as part of the Institute’s efforts to encourage accounting study in the country, it had been offering scholarship worth N500,000 to each scholar that is ready to study Accounting  up to doctorate level.
