AGF Tasks FPOs On Financial Prudence, Adoption Of Reform Initiatives

The Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwatoyin Madein, has charged Federal Pay Officers (FPOs) on the need for them to be financially prudent and embrace the new financial reform initiatives in the discharge of their duties.

The AGF, who gave the charge during her working visit  to the Federal Pay Office in Kano, Kano State, as part her ongoing tour of Federal Pay Offices nationwide, also reiterated her commitment to mandate the FPOs to ensure  that their counterparts in  Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the states comply with the provisions of the public financial management reform initiatives of the government.

Madein maintained that the use of manual process in carrying out financial activities would soon be over, adding that the use of modern technology in accounting practice is key to achieving efficiency at all levels of operations

She hinted that her office had commenced the process of establishment of enterprise concept management through which all activities will be digitalized and will also be extended to the FPOs.

The AGF harped on the need for states to halt leakages in order to improve revenue generation and collection to ensure that state governments received there revenues as at when due and the Federal Government will not be burden by unpaid liabilities.

In addition, she urged the FPOs to be digitally skilled and also embrace the performance management system, which will replace the annual performance evaluation report (APER), adding that it will involve all staff and will be used in measurement of management performance.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman Committee of FPOs North West Zone, Aminu Umar, commended the AGF for her visit, adding that “it will go a long way as a pace setter for the incoming Accountant General after your reign”.
