The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Thursday revved up its efforts to enlighten students on money, savings, how to create better livelihoods and becoming entrepreneurs to some schools in the Federal Capital Territory.

The apex bank’s Deputy Governor (Financial System Stability), Mrs Aisha Ahmad,  led a team of  CBN directors to Government Secondary School, Wuse Zone 3, and the Staff Community Secondary School, Asokoro, as part of activities to mark the Global Money Week.

During her interactions with the students, Ahmad, said the apex bank was committed to empowering children and youths by teaching them on how to manage their money wisely through savings and investments for their future.

In addition, she educated the students on the benefits of budgeting as a mechanism for controlling finances, helping to build assets and creating a healthy financial situation. “

She said: “Budgeting is about choices. Choose what to save for the future, what to spend now and what to spend on. “Needs first, wants later.”

The Deputy Governor also educated the students on the difference between good and bad debt, pointing out that going into debt for things that would not improve one’s net worth such as vacations, clothes and eating out could undermine one’s financial goals is not desirable.

Ahmed clarified further: “We are passionate about creating an economy that will benefit all Nigerians and to be able to do that everyone needs to be financially literate.

“They need to know the proper ways to earn money. My message to all children today is do the right things, study hard, try and understand yourself, who you are, what you like to do and see how you can use that to change the world”, she added.
