Adeosun Charges New Boards Of Parastatals On Reforms

The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has charged the newly-inaugurated Chairmen and board members of federal agencies to bring their wealth of experiences to transform them in order to achieve their mandate.

She gave the charge yesterday in Abuja during the inauguration of the boards of four parastatals under her ministry.

Adeosun, who spoke on some of the projects currently being implemented by the agencies, pointed out the purpose of the ongoing initiatives was to increase government’s non-oil revenue, create jobs and achieve economic transformation.

She said: “The President had a choice of 180 million Nigerians to choose from and he settled on you. To have chosen you, proves the confidence he has in you, which should not be taken lightly.

“I wish to reiterate the support of the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Federal Government in carrying out your duties”, the minister added.

The newly sworn-in Chairman of the National Insurance Commission Board, Emmanuel Nwosu, who spoke on behalf of the board members, thanked the Federal Government and promised that they would work towards achieving the objectives of the Economic Growth and Recovery Programme (EGRP) and other policies.

On the whole, 31 members were sworn into the boards of the four agencies. They are, the National Insurance Commission, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Export-Import Bank (NEXIM), and the Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme (ACGS).

The Minister was sworn-in as Chairman of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) while Olubunmi Siyanbola was sworn-in as the Chairman of the ACGS board. A Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is expected to serve as Chairman, NEXIM Board.
