As the panic over the linking of National Identification Number (NIN) with telecommunication lines assumed a hypertensive dimension since Tuesday, January 19, 2021 among telecommunication services consumers nationwide, the Federal Government has announced February 9, 2021 as the new deadline for the exercise.

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in its official Twitter handle confirmed the postponement of the deadline.

The NIMC had initially given a January 19 deadline for those with NIN and February 9 for those without NIN.

But on Wednesday, the commission was compelled by public complaints to shift the earlier January 19 deadline.

The Commission tweeted: “All Nigerians and legal residents are advised to enroll for their national identification number (NIN) and link them before February 9th, 2021. Enroll for your national identification NUMBER (NIN) today!!!. Please remember, NIN enrollment is FREE.”
