Discos’ Prepaid Meter Supplies Hit 1.67Mn Nationwide – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported that the 11 electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) in the country so far supplied a total of  1,669,675 units of prepaid meters to consumers nationwide as at the end of December 2018..

According to the official statistics producing and reporting agency in its latest ‘Power Sector Report: Energy Generated and Sent Out and Consumed and Load Allocation (Q4 2018)’, the total prepaid meters supplied to customers in the country stood at 1,589,805 as at the first quarter of this year, rising to 1,615,066 in the second quarter (Q2, 2018)

In the third quarter, the metered customers rose to 1,653,144 and this figure increased marginally to 1,66,675 million customers in the fourth quarter of 2018 (Q4’18), representing barely one percent increase from the 1,653,144 million metered in the preceding quarter.

The report indicated that Abuja Disco recorded the highest number of customers metered during the quarter in review, increasing meter supply from 292,714 units supplied in Q3 to 295,641 units in Q4.

Abuja Disco is closely followed by Benin Disco, which also raised its supply to customers from 285,144 units in Q3 to 287,995 units in the quarter.

Eko Disco recorded one of the lowest supply of meters to customers on quarter-on-quarter basis, raising its total units supply from 159,784 units in Q3 to 161,382 in Q4, representing a mere addition of  600 units in three months. Yola Disco was the least performer, increasing its meter supply to customers by just 373 units in Q4 from the 37,329 units it recorded in the preceding quarter.

Meanwhile, the Bureau also reported that the nation’s thermal power stations generated an averaged 68,625 MegaWatts per hour, MWh/h, daily in the quarter under review while the hydro power stations generated an average of 27,913 MWh of energy within the same period.

It clarified further: “Thermal stations generated a peak of 80,856 MWh on 20th December, 2018 while the hydro stations attained a peak of 32,681 MWh on the 21st of October, 2018.

“However, the lowest daily energy generation of 44,367 MWh was attained by thermal stations on 29th of October 2018 while the lowest daily energy generation of 21,457 MWh was attained by hydro stations on 21st of December 2018”, the bureau added
