New Finance Minister Resumes, Targets Improved Revenue

The Supervising Minister of Finance, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, on Monday resumed office with a promise to sustain the fiscal policy thrusts of government, especially to rev up revenue generation drives for the nation’s sustainable growth.

The Minister,  who was received at the Ministry by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mahmoud Isa-Dutse and top management staff of the ministry, charged the officials on the need to boost non-oil revenue as a key responsibility of the ministry.

At a meeting with the Permanent Secretary and Directors in the ministry, the Minister noted that the country was currently facing very serious revenue challenges, and it had become imperative for the Ministry to do everything possible to shore up the revenue base of the country.

She explained: “We have very serious revenue challenges and it is up to us to make sure we shore up the revenue base of the country.

“The President has a lot of confidence that we can do this if we work together. You are working for the President and at the end of the day, you’re working for the benefit of the citizens” the minister added.

Ahmed, who promised to build harmonious working relationship with the officials of the ministry, charged the principal officers in the ministry to do all within their powers to justify the the President’s confidence in their ability to achieve the much needed economic turnaround in the country.

The Permanent Secretary in his welcome remarks earlier promised the minister of the management and other employees’ support during her tenure.
