The Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, was on Thursday elected the Chairman of the West Africa Monetary Zone (WAMZ)..

In his post-election speech given election at the ongoing sub-regional meeting in Abuja, Emefiele, pointed out that as desirable to the sub-regional economic integration and sustainable growth as the ECOWAS single currency remained, there was a lot of work that needed to be done in order to meet the year 2020 set for its take-off.

He, however, promised that under his leadership of the WAMZ group, everything that was required to be done would be done towards the achievements of the objectives of the regional organisation.

While reiterating Nigeria’s total commitment to actualizing the single currency dream in the sub-region, Emefiele appealed to member-countries’ leaders to collaborate with the WAMZ group in order for them to fulfil the convergence criteria
