The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), a leading economic research and advocacy think-tank, has reported that the country’s Business Performance Index (BPI) stood at 108.6 points, up from 104.6 and 105.4 points in June 2026 and July 2025, respectively.

The NESG gave these figures in its just published Business Confidence Monitor (BCM), a survey-based report that presents qualitative information on the current business sentiment within the Nigerian economy and gauges expectations about overall economic activities in the short term.

The BCM edition, published in August 2026, which provides insights into business performance in July this year, indicated that the rise in the BPI was due to broad-based expansion across subsectors led by Non-Manufacturing sector.

A further analysis of the BCM data showed that the various subsectors performed better compared with the previous month, with all sectors, including the Services recording expansion in the month under review.

According to the NESG, the index readings for the cost of doing business and input costs rose compared with the previous month.

However, the group reported that despite the significant improvement in business activity, many firms grappled with key constraints, including limited financing, inadequate power supply, high property rental costs, insecurity, and infrastructural bottlenecks.

As expected, the NESG reported that these challenges kept operating costs elevated and constrained new investments during the month.
