…As NASD OTC Exchange Y-T-D Return Rises By 12.16%
The Nigerian equities market extended gains at the close of trading session on Friday, with market capitalisation advancing by 2.06% to N117.03 trillion, translating to an estimated N2.37 trillion gain to investors.
With the impressive performance, the local bourse’s year-to-date (Y-T-D) return improved to 17.16%, while market breadth closed firmly positive at 1.61x, as 53 gainers outpaced 33 losers, reflecting broad-based accumulation across counters.
Data from the Nigerian Exchange Group on the day’s trading showed that trading activity strengthened with total volume traded rising by 34.08% to 936.25 million units, while total value traded surged 85.31% to N52.63 billion, indicating strong investors’ participation in the market.

However, deal count marginally declined by 1.92% to 49,888 trades and the top drivers of market activity included ZENITHBANK, GTCO, MTNN, and SEPLAT with 45% of the total market value traded.
A further analysis of the NGX data reflected that sectoral performance was broadly positive on Friday as the Banking Index advanced 2.49% to 1,777.73 points, supported by gains in ZENITHBANK, FIRSTHOLDCO and GTCO just as the Oil & Gas Index gained 2.05% to 3,753.29 driven by gains in SEPLAT and ARADEL.
According to the report, the Oil & Gas index continues to lead the market in 2026, with 11.40% week-to-date return and 40.56% year-to-date return.
On the Consumer Goods Index, gains in NESTLE (10%) lifted the by 0.78% to 4,267.00 points while the Industrial Index gained 0.44% to 6,689.71 points driven by gains in WAPCO. Similarly, the Insurance Index appreciated by 0.64% to 1,306.60 points. Overall, Banking and Oil & Gas Indices drove the bulk of the day’s upside, as the sharp rise in traded value reflects renewed confidence in large-cap names, reinforcing the strength of the ongoing rally.
In addition, the data indicated that at the NASD OTC Exchange, the market closed the week on a positive note, extending its bullish run as the NASD Securities Index (NSI) advanced 0.86% to close at 3,974.8 points, compared to 3,940.9 points in the previous trading session.
The Friday performance lifted the year-to-date return to 12.16% while market capitalisation increased by 0.86% to N2.38 trillion, up from N2.36 trillion value recorded on Thursday, reinforcing the steady expansion in market value. Trading activity strengthened during the session.
At the close of the trading on the Exchange today, total volume traded rose 9.52% to 9.44 million units, compared to 8.62 million units previously just as the value traded signifcantly surged by 1,206.45% to N703.63 million, up from N53.86 million, indicating the execution of significantly larger ticket transactions.
The NASD OTC Exchange deals increased by 7.14% to 45 trades compared to 42 trades in the previous session, reflecting improved participation across the OTC market.
