The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in collaboration with UNICEF, is set to flag off the 7th Round of the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) to guide policies in critical areas like child health, nutrition, and education.
The MICS is a rich source of statistically sound and internationally comparable data on women and children worldwide, focusing on issues such as health, education, child protection, water, and sanitation.
According to the statistics agency, the survey serves as a major source of data for measuring progress under national and regional development plans, including the Renewed Hope Agenda and African Union 2063 Agenda.
It disclosed that the MICS, which is usually conducted every five years, remained Nigeria’s most comprehensive effort to close data gaps affecting women, children, and vulnerable populations.

The Bureau stated that MICS7 would collect data on key SDG indicators, enabling targeted interventions across 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
On the data collection process, the statistics agency explained that trained NBS interviewers would visit selected households using digital tools to collect accurate data.
Commenting on the exercise, the Statistician-General of the Federation/NBS CEO, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, said: “MICS has been Nigeria’s trusted tool for understanding lives of women and children since 1995, turning complex realities into hard numbers that drive policy and progress.”
The NBS’ management urged the public to support the exercise by providing data to interviewers visiting households from December 3, 2025.
