The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) on Friday stressed that the enrollment for the National Identification Number (NIN) remained free, urging Nigerians to be wary of individuals demanding money for the service.
The commission, in a statement, stressed that neither its staff nor its Front-End Partners (FEPs) were authorized to collect any fees from applicants, and directed security agencies to track down and sanction anyone found engaging in such illegal practices.
It stated: “The NIMC does not charge for NIN enrollment, and any staff or FEP found extorting applicants will face legal consequences, including sanctions and the revocation of licenses.”
To safeguard the NIN applicants against fraudsters’ antics, the Commission urged the public to report any case of extortion through the designated channels: Email: customercare@nimc.gov.ng and Phone: 07002255646.
While assuring Nigerians of its continued commitment to providing seamless and accessible services, the NIMC promised to address extortion issues and ensure a smooth enrollment process for all citizens.
