The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has notified the public on the draft Licensing Framework for Application-To-Person (A2P) services as part of its sustained initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency of telecommunications services in the country.
The NCC Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, in a Notice to the effect on Friday, indicated that the introduction of the A2P services was in accordance with the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) of 2003, adding that the framework is now accessible on the Commission’s website, www.ncc.gov.ng
According to the Director, the initiative aims to bring increased structure and transparency to the rapidly growing telecommunications industry.
The NCC further stated: “The Nigerian Communications Commission remains committed to ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Nigerian Communications Act.
“All interested stakeholders should submit comments and contributions on the exposed A2P Framework on or before Thursday December 19th 2024. All comments and contributions should be emailed to: aadaba@ncc.gov.ng copying msyusuf@ncc.gov.ng”, it added.
To ensure that stakeholders’ views are considered in the final draft of the framework, the Commission has scheduled a Stakeholders Forum for December 20 this year, which is intended to avail telecom services operators, consumers and other industry players to parley on the framework before its final copy is released.
The A2P services facilitate automated communication between businesses and customers, primarily for notifications, alerts, and marketing messages and the A2P framework seeks to regulate and streamline these services, thereby enhancing a more efficient, transparent, and statutorily compliant ecosystem for both service providers and consumers.
