The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) on Tuesday announced the commencement of crude oil refining by the Port Harcourt refinery after five years it had remained in comatose despite billions of US dollars spent on its re-streaming by the Federal Government.
The company’s Chief Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, in a statement, confirmed: “Today marks a monumental achievement for Nigeria as the Port Harcourt Refinery officially commences crude oil processing. This groundbreaking milestone signifies a new era of energy independence and economic growth for our nation.
“Hearty congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NNPC Board, and the exceptional leadership of GCEO Mele Kyari for their unwavering commitment to this transformative project. Together, we are reshaping Nigeria’s energy future!”, the spokesman added.
Soneye disclosed that truck loading of refined products from the 250 barrels per day capacity refinery would also commence today, and assured that the company was also working to ensure the commencement of crude oil refining at the Warri Refinery soon.
The NNPCL’s management had previously announced the commencement of operations of the multi-billion dollar refinery but the promises failed.
