Despite assurances by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on its commitment to strengthening the nation’s power transmission infrastructure nationwide, the national power grid on Tuesday suffered another major collapse, causing widespread blackout nationwide.

According to an update shared on the official social media account of the Nigerian National Grid on X (formerly known as Twitter), the latest collapse has impacted power supply across several regions, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) leaving businesses, households, and essential services in  potential outages.

Although details of the cause of the grid collapse remained sparse as of the time of this report, the X statement indicated that efforts were being made by the TCN to assess the cause of the collapse with a view to restoring power supply to as many areas as fast as possible.

Over the past few weeks, over six incidents of the collapse of the national grid had been recorded, compelling the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to convened a stakeholder engagement about two weeks ago, during which the TCN, the Gencos and Discos assured consumers of their commitment to ensuring stable power supply in the country.
