The Nigeria Communications Commission (NC’C) on Monday warned subscribers to be cautious of whom they share hotspot of their phones with in view of the fast data-draining risks associated with such acts.
The commission, in a Notice on its official Facebook page, stated that that if subscribers noticed fast drain of data on their phones, one thing must be happening; the data is being consumed through hotspot.
In the Notice, the telecom industry regulatory commission, posed some questions to subscribers thus: “Your data seems to have vanished fast?, Did you share your hotspot password?, Oh-oh… That’s why!
The NCC advised the subscribers to: “Next time, share love, not your hotspot password.
Over the years, the NCC has consistently enlightened the subscribers on how best to manage their data in furtherance of its awareness campaigns in the industry.
For instance, following growing complaints by telecom subscribers about the fast drainage of their data in the last two years, the Consumer Affairs Bureau of the commission had organized series of enlightenment programmes for the subscribers across the nation’s geo-political zones with a view to enabling them optimize their data usage.
In May 2023, the Chairman of the NCC Board, Prof. Adeolu Akande, at the NCC’s Fifth Edition of Campus Conversation held at the University of Ibadan confirmed that the commission was inundated with frequent complaints from subscribers about the fast depleting rate of their data.
He explained then that the programme was “consistent with the mandate of the Commission to protect, inform and educate the Nigerian telecom consumers”
Similarly, in June this year the Consumer Affairs Bureau Department of the NCC highlighted some of the major causes of data depletion on subscribers’ phones and other devices and the solutions to minimize the rate of subscribers’ data depletion in series of awareness programmes across the country.
