Apapa Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) reported that it generated N1.610 trillion revenue in Q3 2024, representing a major improvement over the N1.172 trillion total revenue it raked in 2023 .
The Comptroller of the command, Mr. Babatunde Olomu, attributed the improved revenue collection to the diligence and integrity of the officers, emphasizing the Command’s commitment to engaging stakeholders to further improve revenue collection and reduce smuggling.
According to him, the command is implementing various trade facilitation programmes initiated by the NCS’ Comptroller General, Adewale Adeniyi, including Advance Ruling, Time Release Study, and Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) to benefit the nation’s economy
On the Command’s anti-smuggling efforts, the Area Comptroller commended the officers of the service for their diligent examination and interventions, reiterating the Command’s zero-tolerance policy for smuggling.
He listed that Command’s strategies as comprising strict cargo monitoring, port user profiling, stakeholder sensitization, and in-house training and retraining of customs officers have contributed to the significant reduction in smuggling.
Olomu urged port users to utilize the dispute resolution team and reassured licensed customs agents, freight forwarders, importers, exporters, and haulage operators of the command’s assistance.
He also expressed the Command’s appreciation to other law enforcement agencies for their support and restated the command’s commitment to sharing intelligence and promoting compliance.
