IST Enlightens Legal Experts On Regulatory Roles, Opens Kano Office

The Investments and Securities Tribunal (IST) has commended all stakeholders who participated in its recent one-day Hybrid Sensitization Seminar with the theme “Legal Profession and Capital Market Regulation in Nigeria; the Investments and Securities Tribunal in Focus”.

The event, which featured the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, as the special guest, was attended by judges, lawyers and over 200 law students from Bayero University Kano (BUK) and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria.

It was organized to highlight the activities of the Tribunal to the legal public as many were oblivious of the IST and how it is resolving conflict resolution arising from capital market disputes.

At the event, the Minister of Finance urged experts from the legal profession, capital market regulators and financial experts to come up with suggestions on how to strengthen the capital market regulations and ultimately, the IST for greater effectiveness.

In his address, the IST Chairman, Amos Azi, said the establishment of the tribunal was in recognition of the importance of a developed dispute resolution framework for the Nigerian capital market with a view to ensuring a fair, efficient and transparent resolution of disputes for the promotion of market confidence and integrity.

The IST also unveiled its Kano Zonal Office, expressed its appreciation to those that attended the events, adding the two events will go a long way in establishing itself as “The Investors Court” that will lend credence not only to its operations but put it on a pedestal of being the number one reference point not just in Africa but in the global capital market.
