International Women’s Day: NCC Canvasses Gender Inclusivity In Telecoms, ICT Industry

The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, has restated the commission’s commitment to creating inclusive environment with a view to promoting gender inclusiveness in the telecommunications and Information and Communications Technology industry to support current drive by the government to fully digitalize the nation’s economy.

The telecom industry regulator, who made this remark during the activities marking the NCC’s International Women Day’s celebration at its headquarters in Abuja on Friday, stressed the importance of empowering and including women in the development of the industry, given their significant contributions to the nation’s workforce.

To achieve this laudable goal, Maida called on the governments, corporate entities, and stakeholders in  the telecom and ICT industry to collaborate with NCC in establishing an ecosystem that supports the development and utilization of women’s talents and skills.

He underscored the necessity of providing equal opportunities for women to progress and succeed in these fields and by implication, sustainably improve the industry’s contributions to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP)

The EVC/CEO stressed: “At NCC, we acknowledge the invaluable contribution of diversity to our workplace and are steadfast in our commitment to cultivating an environment that empowers and includes women.

“As we commemorate International Women’s Day, we extend an invitation to the government, corporate Nigeria, and the telecom and ICT industry to collaborate with us in constructing and nurturing an ecosystem that champions talent and skills for women, ensuring equal opportunities for their growth and advancement”, Maida added.
