The Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) Dr. Aminu Maida, has commended the Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, for the recent waiver granted to telecom operators on Right of Way (RoW) charges.
The EVC at a meeting with the governor at the telecom industry regulatory commission’s headquarters in Abuja, described Radda’s decision as “forward-thinking” and harped on the significance of the fiscal initiative as a catalyst to current drives towards achieving the National Broadband Plan’s 70% broadband penetration target by 2025.
During the meeting, Governor Radda spoke on the current innovative policies and programmes being implemented by his administration in the state, demonstrating the government’s clear understanding of the pivotal role digital connectivity infrastructure plays in fostering economic development.
While expressing his support for the National Broadband Alliance project initiated by the Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, the governor maintained Katsina State’s readiness to collaborative with the Federal Government on the efforts.
Specifically, the Alliance aims to unite key stakeholders from the public and private sectors, along with civil society, to develop sustainable business models for widespread Internet adoption in critical public institutions nationwide.
Radda, who pointed out that the telecommunications sector held great potential for driving the digital economy agenda of the Federal Government, solicited the Commission’s invaluable support in enhancing the telecommunications and internet infrastructure across various ministries, departments, agencies, hospitals, and schools in Katsina State.
This is even as he promised the NCC management of his commitment to collaborate with the Commission and all other stakeholders in the industry, assuring that “together, we strive to facilitate the extension of services by service providers to the most remote towns and communities.”
In his remarks, the NCC’s chief assured the governor of the commission’s collaboration and support, aligning with the shared vision for a digitally progressive Katsina State.
