The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported that it generated N540 billion as revenue from January to June this year.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Usman, in a statement confirmed that out of the amount N119 billion was generated in June, representing the highest monthly collection it recorded so far.

Usman quoted the outgoing Customs Area Comptroller of the command, Mohammed Auwal, as giving these figures in his farewell meeting with senior officers of the Command.

Auwal attributed the Command’s revenue collection to leakage prevention, zero compromise for duty evasion and due diligence in the face of a reduced volume of trade.

While thanking the officers and stakeholders for their support, the ACG described the various interventions such as demand notices to recover identified shortfalls in revenue as helpful.

Auwal was one of the senior customs officers decorated on Monday with the rank of an Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs by the Acting Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi.
