The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Kwara Area Command has reported N3,566,997,587.12 as its generated revenue in the first quarter of this year
The State Area Comptroller of the Service, Mr. Kehinde Ilesanmi, made the disclosure while briefing journalists on the activities of the Command in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The Comptroller reported that the Command recorded 23 seizures of different items with a duty paid value (DPV) of N34,797,020 during the quarter
Ilesanmi said the successes were achieved through the use of concept of policing the land borders and area of responsibilities in line with international best practices.
He listed some of the prohibited items seized by the Command as including 451 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 23 bales of second hand clothes and 873 kegs of petroleum of 25 liters each which is about 21,825 liters of PMS, six units of used vehicles ,and one motorcycle used in conveying petroleum.
The Comptroller further explained that in line with the extant laws and Standard Operational Procedure (SOP), most of the inflammable products had been auctioned and that the amount generated from the exercise had been remitted into the government coffers.
The Area Comptroller warned smugglers to desist from all forms of economic sabotage within the Command, stressing that anybody engaging in any form of smuggling and peddling of contraband will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
Ilesanmi restated the Command’s determination to remain unrelenting in its effort to continue to foil, frustrate and deplete the activities of saboteurs.
