The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Wednesday reported that Nigeria’s electricity generation rebounded on Tuesday to 79.04GWh from the 67.17GWh generated the preceding day.
The company, in its latest information on the electricity generation and supply trend in the country, also reported that energy supply increased by 17.8% to 78.2GWh on Tuesday, compared to 66.39GWh sent out by the generating companies (GenCos) on Monday.
Similarly, it reported that in the day under review, energy generation peaked at 3,497.4MW while off-peak stood at 2,973MW.
The company further clarified that 98.94% of the generated energy in the day under review was sent out to Distributing Companies (DisCos), adding that the highest frequency for the day was 50.48Hz, while the lowest frequency was 49Hz.
It would be recalled that the company had reported on Monday that energy generation fell by 2.4% to 67,172.13MWh from 66,398.84MWh recorded on Sunday while total supply declined by 2.1% to 66,398.84MWh compared to 67,790.1MWh supplied the GenCos on Sunday.
Experts have continued to express serious concern about the nation’s lingering electricity supply shortfall over the months which, they noted, had caused serious disruptions to economic activities nationwide and by so doing, stalling the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate.
In recent times, the industry analysts have listed some of the quantifiable negative impacts of the electricity supply shortfall as including huge man hour losses, high cost of doing business, job losses and shortfall in revenue earnings for business owners, federal, state and local governments, amongst others.
