The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported that Nigeria’s electricity generation increased marginally on Thursday, as the generating companies (GenCos) generated a total of 76,444.98MWh of energy.
The Thursday’s energy output represented an increase of 5.13% compared to 72,712.08MWh generated in the previous day.
The previous day, energy generation dropped to an almost two-month low of 72.71GWh.
According to the TCN, as a result of the slight increase in electricity on the day in review, energy supply improved by 5.08% to 75,342.22MWh on Thursday.
A further analysis of the data on the power situation indicated that Peak generation rose to 3,302.2MW representing +0.53% higher than the previous day’s output while Off-peak generation totaled 2,996.6MW or +4.77% more than Wednesday’s level.
The TCN further reported that the highest frequency for the day was 50.38Hz, while the lowest frequency was 49.12Hz.
In the last few months, the nation’s energy generation and supply have consistently dipped below the minimum 105,000MWh required to achieve some level of power supply stability in Africa’s largest economy.
The resultant effects of this worrisome development in the power sector for the economy had been unquantifiable in terms of man hour losses, inability of manufacturers and other entrepreneurs to produce cost-efficiently and optimize their operations, job losses and shortfall in revenue earnings for federal, state and local governments.
Due to the negative impacts of the epileptic power supply on the economy, prices of goods and services have been increasing over the months, thereby witling the purchasing power of consumers, who are also lamenting daily as poverty level continues to worsen in the country.
