The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, has assured stakeholders in the telecommunications industry, particularly subscribers, of its determination to consolidate on its achievements last year through innovative regulatory regime this year.
Maida, while reflecting on key achievements of the commission last year, including the successful implementation of the Federal Government’s NIN-SIM linkage policy and the Presidential designation of NCC’s infrastructure as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII), promised to enhance service delivery and transparency within the telecommunications sector in 2025.
According to him, the 2024 achievements laid the groundwork for both a secure digital economy and enhanced national security in the years ahead.
The EVC hinted of the Commission’s plan to release coverage maps based on crowd-sourced, real-world performance data with a view to empowering consumers by offering insights into the efficiency of Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in their specific locations.
He assured: “No more guessing which network works best. Users will have access to actual performance data directly on our website.”
Maida stressed the importance of transparency in the telecom services delivery, promising that the initiatives the commission planned to undertake this year will foster robust competition among operators and improve service delivery.
The EVC said: “2025 is a year of optimism. With the foundations we laid in 2024, we are set to transform the telecom landscape.”
Industry analysts believe that the commission’s focus on transparency and user enlightenment underscores its commitment to championing innovation drive in Nigeria’s digital economy and promoting competition and fairness at all levels of the industry’s value chain.
