Nigeria Will Become Most Advanced 5G Country In Africa – MTN CEO

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Nigeria Plc, Mr. Karl Toriola has predicted that Nigeria will be the most advanced 5G country in Africa as the 5G technology deployment continues to gain momentum in the country.

The telecom expert, who made this forecast during the commercial launch of the 5G technology by his company in Lagos, assured that the country would witness a rapid expansion of 5G coverage nationwide starting with major cities as take-off points.

Toriola disclosed that the Mobile Network Operator (MNO) would soon  launch the network in six other cities of Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Kano, Owerri, and Maiduguri.

According to him, the commercial launch of the 5G technology is in fulfilment of the company’s earlier promise to begin the 5G commercial launch in cities, within one month of the 5G rollout.

He explained  that the advanced 5G technology had great potential to extend the reach and capacity of MTN Nigeria’s data network in the country and by so doing enable faster speeds and lower latency, giving customers near-instant access to the things they care about and real-time downloads.

Speaking at the forum, the telco’s Chief Marketing Officer, Adia Sowho, spoke on the evolution of network technology from 2G to 5G and demonstrated the superiority of the 5G network over the 4G network in terms of speed.

In his address during the launch, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Danbatta, congratulated the MNO for the technology-deployment scorecard

He assured Nigerians that the deployment of the 5G technology would further spur the nation’s economic growth by deepening mobile broadband services.

It would be recalled that the 5G commercial launch by the telecom operator came barely three weeks after the pilot launch of the technology as mandated by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
