NGX Opens Bullish, As Investors Gain N98Bn

Trading on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) opened on a bullish note after the bears dominated the market in the closing day last week as  investors gained N98 billion at the close of the trading session.

Specifically, information from the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) on the trading trend in the local bourse indicated that the All-Share Index (ASI) rose by 0.35% higher to close at 52,369.13 index points as against 52,187.93 index points recorded during last Friday’s trading session.

The market capitalization of equities also appreciated by N98 billion to close at N28.515 trillion, representing 0.34% gain compared to the N28.417 trillion recorded on Friday.

The NGX data reflected that the market breadth closed positive as IKEJAHOTEL led the gainers’ table with 9.85% gain while NCR, with -9.71% loss led the losers’ table. ZENITH BANK Plc was the most traded equity at the end of today’s session.

The NGX market indices further reflected that the volume traded totaled 318.23 million with a value of N4.05 billion in 5,847 deals.

At the end of the day’s trading session, the top five ASI gainers comprised IKEJAHOTEL, which gained 9.85% to close at N2.23 per share; ACADEMY gained 9.80% to close at N1.68 per share; compared to PRESTIGE, which gained 9.76% to close at N0.45 per share; NPFMCRFBK, also gained 9.71% to close at N1.92 per share; and the gainers’ table ended with CILEASING, which gained 9.69% to close at N3.51 per share

The NGX reported that the top five ASI losers were NCR, which was down by -9.71% to close at N2.79 per share; SOVRENINS dipped by -8.89% to close at N0.41 per share; NEIMETH which share value depreciated by -7.33% to close at N1.39 per share; ARDOVA, which was down by -6.95% to close at N18.75 per share; and ROYALEX, which dipped by -5.77% to close at N0.49 per share.

The data also showed that the top three traded stocks by volume included ZENITHBANK:  53,434,420; ACCESSCORP: 48,034,489; and UBA: 31,111,033; while those that led in value gained were ZENITHBANK : N1,381,259,308; GTCO:  N541,037,919; and ACCESSCORP: N486,299,055
