Equities Market Closes Positive, As Investors Gain N441Bn

Trading at the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) closed positive on Thursday amidst buy-interests and sell-offs as bulls dominated the session, thereby boosting the broad market’s value.

At the end of the day’s trading session, the All Share Index (ASI) appreciated by 1.05% to close at 54,413.21 points while the market capitalization grew by N441 billion to close at N29.642 trillion.

The improvement in the ASI pushed the market’s Year-to-Date (Y-t-D) returns up by 5.46%, thereby spurring the market to advance by 2,817.55 basis points since the commencement of trading sessions in the bourse this year.

Available data from the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) on the day’s trading indicated that the market breadth closed positive as OANDO led the 23 gainers’ table, just as PZ topped the 14 losers’ table.

According to the data,  the volume of stocks traded on Thursday stood at 973.6 million with a total  value of N4.22 billion in 3,718 deals.

At the end of the day’s trading, the five top ASI gainers were OANDO up + 9.98% to close at N5.40; SUNASSUR up  + 9.09% to close at N0.48; MTNN up + 8.89% to close at N240.00; CHIPLC up + 8.77% to close at N0.60; and ROYALEX up + 8.70% to close at N0.75

Conversely, the top five ASI losers were PZ down – 5.88% to close at N11.20; CHAMS down – 4.71%  to close at N0.23; UNILEVER down – 5.7% to close at N13.50; JAPAULGOLD down – 3.45% to close at N0.26; and AIICO down – 3.33% to close at N0.58

Also, the trading indices reflected that the top 3 traded stocks by volume were TRANSCORP –455,534,236; LIVINGTRUST – 254,768,807; and FIDELITYBK –143,346,731.

The data reflected that the top three traded stocks by value comprised LIVINGTRUST – N775,165,398; FIDELITYBK – N746,823,026; and TRANSCORP – N669,227,302
