CBN Unveils eNaira Website To Promote Digital Transactions

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Monday launched a website to facilitate the use of Nigeria’s electronic currency –eNaira- as a means of financial transactions globally.

The launching of the website was part of the apex bank’s preparations for the use of the electronic currency in Nigeria as a means of financial transaction.

The website’s uniform resource locators (URL) is https://www.enaira.com/ had recorded over one million hits within 24 hours.

Speaking on the digital currency initiative, the apex bank governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, said the digital currency was designed to help in attaining the bank’s goals of fostering greater inclusion using digital channels, supporting cross border payments for businesses and firms and providing a reliable channel for remittances inflows into the country.

The Governor enthused: “When fully deployed, the eNaira will ensure that Nigerians in remote areas can conduct financial activities using their digital as well as feature phone devices.”

Emefiele had maintained that the support of the financial industry will be critical in the deployment of the e-naira and efforts were on-going to encourage continued partnership between the CBN and stakeholders in the financial industry.

He assured: “From October 1, a Nigerian will be able to download the eNaira app from either Google Play Store or App Store, fund their eNaira wallet using their bank accounts or with cash at a registered agent, location.”
