Nigeria’s former Statistician-General of the Federation and Chief Executive of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Dr. Yemi Kale, has been appointed as Group Chief Economist & Managing Director of Research and International Cooperation at the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank).

With more than two decades of cognate experience in statistical research and development planning, Kale is bringing invaluable expertise to support Afreximbank’s mission of stimulating African trade and industrialization.

Analysts believe that his appointment will remarkably enhance the bank’s strategic initiatives aimed at boosting Sub-Saharan Africa’s (SSA’s) export-import business and contribute to the development finance lender’s overall objectives in promoting economic development across the continent.

A First class graduate of Economics from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, and M.Sc. (with distinction), and Ph.D. in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, Kale is also an alumnus of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government Leadership in Government Programmes and a Fellow of the UK Royal Statistical Society.

In addition, he is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Statistical Association, and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Administrators and Researchers of Nigeria, among other notable affiliations.

Until his new appointment at Afreximbank, the former Nigeria’s Statistician-General was serving as a Partner, Chief Economist, and Head of Research at KPMG West Africa.
