MTN Records Over 55% Of Incoming Ported Numbers In Nov 2023

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) at the weekend released the report on number porting in the telecoms industry for November which reflected that MTN Nigeria, the leading mobile network operator (MNO) by subscriber number, recorded 1,470 incoming porting out of the 2,433 in the month.

Conversely, 9mobile suffered more customer losses in the month under review with 1,646 of its customers moving to other networks, representing 68% of the total numbers ported.

According to the latest industry porting statistics released by the industry regulator, the MTN only lost 274 customers, the same as Airtel, while Globacom recorded 239 outgoing porting.

A further analysis of the report showed that Airtel also recorded 668 customers from other networks, Globacom gained 211 customers from other operators in the month under review.

However, 9mobile, which recorded the highest number of customers Outgoing porting to other networks had the least incoming porting with only 84 subscribers migrating to its network in the month under review.

The November 2023 Incoming Ported numbers remained the lowest since July last year when telecom subscribers ported 4,077 numbers, the highest monthly ported numbers in the 11-month period.

The November 2023 data from the industry regulator showed that for the 11-month period, the total number of ported numbers stood at 36,114 across the four major telecom network services operators.

Incoming (Inward) Porting means the number of numbers ported from another service provider’s network into a service provider’s own network.

According to NCC, apart from the quality of service, most subscribers do port to other networks in search of cheaper call and data rates on various promos offered by network operators, among other determining variables.
