Ogun Physical Planning Board Generates N1Bn In 8 Months

The Ogun Urban and Physical Planning Board on Friday reported that its internally generated revenue (IGR) stood at over N1 billion  from January to August this year.

The state Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning, Mrs Ronke Sokefun, made the disclosure when members of the state House of Assembly Committee on Lands and Housing  visited  the board’s office in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Specifically, the commissioner disclosed that the  revenue was generated from survey/planning/building, land use, fencing permits, administration and penal, amongst others sources.

She said that the board registered 2, 150 building plan applications out of which 1,941  were granted while it also sealed illegal physical developments on Lagos/Ibadan Road axis, Abeokuta/Sagamu axis and Agbara/Atans as well as Ota and Agbado areas.

Sokefun explained that board was also sensitizing the public on the need to build right and obtain approval for building plans.

In order to improve the state’s physical planning generally, the commissioner canvassed the need for the government to quicken  the creation of an urban and regional planning task force as well as a planning tribunal to ensure orderly physical development.

She told the lawmakers that the board would continue to implement its statutory functions with respect for due process and in public interest.

In her remarks, the Chairman of the house committee, Mrs. Yetunde Adekanbi-Sogbein, commended the board on its revenue drive, charging the commissioner and the board members to consolidate on the board’s modest achievements so far.
