SEC Nigeria Mgt Assures Staff On Industrial Harmony

The management of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Nigeria has assured staff of its commitment to ensuring industrial peace and harmony in its operations.

The commission’s Executive Commissioner, Corporate Services, Mr. Ibrahim Boyi, gave this assurance on Thursday while addressing protesting members of staff of the SEC at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The employees had expressed dismay over issues ranging from delay in the conduct of promotion exercise as well as appointment of Directors in the Commission.

Boyi promised the aggrieved staff of the management’s readiness to dialogue with them over welfare matters in a bid to ensuring industrial harmony in the Commission.

He said: “The Board of the Commission is currently meeting to approve the appointment of qualified senior staff as directors and we believe this process will be concluded very soon”.

The commissioner pointed out that since the management had listened to the demands of the staff, as a responsive team, it would do everything within its capabilities to ensure that all grievances are promptly addressed.

He clarified: “We are already in discussions with the staff representatives as we speak, and we hope that at the end of today we will come out with agreements that would be beneficial to all and help to ensure peace and industrial harmony in the SEC.”

The staff of the Commission had, on Thursday, staged a peaceful protest over alleged stagnated promotions and directorate cadre appointments.

The aggrieved staff said they decided to stage the protest to attract the intervention of the Commission’s board which was sitting at the time.

Speaking with journalists after a meeting with the management, the Chairman, Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, SEC Unit, Mr. Nelson Oleghe, listed other issues affecting the staff as including, parity adjustment, vacancy declaration and examination structure.
