CBN Supplies $210Mn To Interbank Segment of Forex Market

CBN on Tuesday supplied the sum of $210 million into the inter-bank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market in furtherance of its sustained efforts to ensure liquidity in the market.

Figures obtained from the apex bank on the latest intervention indicated that it offered $100 million to authorized dealers in the wholesale segment of the market, while the Small and Medium Enterprises, SMEs, segment got $55 million.

Similarly, customers requiring foreign exchange for invisibles covering tuition fees, medical payments and Basic Travel Allowance, BTA, among others, were also allocated the sum of $55 million.

The bank’s acting Director, Corporate Communications Department, Isaac Okorafor, reassured the public that the bank would continue to intervene in the forex market in line with its quest to sustain its liquidity and stability.

It would be recalled that last Friday, the apex bank also intervened with the sum of $318.73 million to cater for requests in the retail segment of the market.

Meanwhile, the naira continued its stability during the day’s trading, exchanging at an average of N360/$1 in the BDC segment of the market.
